Fantastic mini-interview with former G.I. Joe designer Greg Berndston

Over on JoeDeclassified, Gyre-Viper has posted a terrific interview with Greg Berndston, who was a long time designer for Hasbro and worked intimately with the G.I. Joe brand during it’s formative years.

They explore a lot of great topics, and it is definitely worth a read.  Stuff like this is really the cool “secret world” of G.I. Joe that not many modern collectors appreciate, but really demonstrates some of the great building blocks of the brand as we know it.

Check out the interview on JoeDeClassified.com.

JoeDeClassified and JoeBattleLines speak to Derryl DePriest at ComicCon

Along with a couple other fan sites, the guys from JoeDeClassified and JoeBattleLines worked together to talk to Hasbro rep Derryl DePriest at ComicCon last weekend, and has posted the interview online here.

There is some great conversation throughout the entire scope of the interview, especially focusing on the possibilities of more Resolute or Renegades product beyond the scope of the Concept Case stuff, and while the answers certainly aren’t ones that I wanted to hear, it was very intriguing discussion, nonetheless.

Kudos to JoeDeClassified and JBL for gathering together some great discussion points.  Check out the full interview here.

What’s on Joe Mind Episode 56 is online now

Did you ever want to go back in time?  Back to the simpler times…  back to the times before we found out G.I. Joe: Retaliation was delayed for nine months?

Now you can!  Hot on the heels of the biggest G.I. Joe story in years, we give you Episode 56 of What’s on Joe Mind where we discuss none of it!  In our defense, we have valid reasons for that, considering we recorded it before the news hit.  Regardless, there were still plenty of great things to discuss this episode, as we bring on Gary “Gyre-Viper” Head from the JoeDeclassified SpecOps Podcast to talk a little bit about the JoeDeClassified project and what convention attendees might expect to see at the booth.

Arune Singh from Marvel Comics joins us as well as we continue our pushed towards JoeCon and G.I. Joe: Retaliation… err… crap.  As always, hit up our Podbean Page, or just check out the embedded player below.  Show Notes as usual are after the jump.

JoeDeclassified.com – Bringing G.I. Joe history to today's fans

G.I. Joe Convention goers are quite familiar with Joe Declassified, a magazine format newsletter that has been given out at the past few conventions, in conjunction with a very nice booth showcasing the history of G.I. Joe over the past twenty-five years.
JoeDeclassified prides itself on being a not-for-profit G.I. Joe resource for fans of all ages and eras who want to explore the rich history of our favorite toyline.  Currently working to get all of the past newsletters in digital format and hosted on JoeDeclassified.com, you should do yourself a favor and add that site to your bookmarks.
It really is a great site, and could prove to be a valuable resource in the coming years.

JoeDeclassified returns to the G.I. Joe Convention in 2009!

The Joe Declassified Project will return to the G.I.Joe Collector’s Convention this year, and arriving back with a bang.  For those that were able to visit us last year, you were privy to see some of the the coolest and most revealing Joe items of your collecting career.  This year, we plan to return with more of the same, as well as another issue of our free newsletter!  This one will be printed in full color, and come in at over 20 pages of Joe material, including a huge behind the scenes peek at DDP’s WWIII storyline by Mike O’Sullivan himself. Check out last year’s newsletter here. If you love this hobby like we do, then come on by our booth!

The Joe Declassified Mission Statement:

We feel that it is high time that we, the fans of G.I.Joe, take up the responsibility of ensuring the growth of our hobby – both in wealth of knowledge, and broadening the fan base to welcome everyone into the overarching community.  As collectors, we have all spoken of, or heard others speak of things they wish to see in the community; secrets to be revealed, collecting tools made available, and so forth. We aim to go out of our way to ensure these voices are heard, and these desires become reality. We wish to work with other existing groups that are fan owned, operated and oriented, and seek to put aside those here solely to profit at the collectors expense; those who hold no love for our hobby.

We are putting our money where our mouth is. None of our endeavors will be for profit. A stronger, collaborative community is reward enough. Our newsletter was, and will continue to be, free to the collector. Our website aims to aid fellow collectors in every way possible, while stripping away old trappings that have discouraged us all in the past. With you, we will forge a stronger and united community based on sharing, inclusion and assistance. Now is the time for us to all come together and lead G.I.JOE back to being the number one toy brand is has been various times in the past. With you, we can make this happen. The future is yours.

Thank you for making this hobby better,

Sam “Nomad” Damon
