Clues emerge for 2011 JoeCon Exclusive Convention set

With the JoeCon coming much earlier in the year next year, we’re getting some nice early hints about what to expect for the Convention set in 2011.  Thanks to “The Commander” over on the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club forums (which members and non-members should really visit more often) we have the following clues:

  • “My, you look good in that camo pattern!”
  • “Time for a Rumble in the Jungle!”

The first clue was courtesy of the latest Collectors’ Club newsletter, while clue #2 came on the forums.  I’m loving what I’m seeing so far.  On the Convention request forums every single year, I’ve been practically begging for a jungle-themed set…certainly seems like this would be the year.
I have my own little guess, too…  on the Collectors’ Club forums a number of months ago, I hypothesized that if the Club was moving to the modern sculpts, they should consider a “Special Missions: Brazil” type of theme.  Use existing characters like Footloose, Dial Tone, Leatherneck, and Claymore, and do them up in jungle camouflage.  This would get the fans the 25th homage Footloose and Leatherneck they want, and would also help nicely develop the more obscure (yet awesome) Claymore character from the original Toys “R” Us Exclusive set back in the day.
It seems clear from the 2011 exclusive Dial Tone that the Club is thinking along these lines, so let’s see what further clues bring!  Once again, I strongly suggest fans visit the Collectors’ Club forums to stay abreast of all the upcoming convention updates.

GI Joe Collectors' Club Dial Tone image revealed!

As promised the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club has officially revealed the 2011 Membership Exclusive incentive figure, Dial Tone!
Where the infamous G.I. Joe Communications Officer has been given a recent sex change in the IDW and Resolute universes, the Collectors’ Club features him in his familiar 1986 glory, filling  a major hole in the 25th Anniversary line up.
Utilizing the torso from the 25th Anniversary Buzzer, arms and legs from Sgt. Airborne, and a newly tooled head and communications backpack, Dial Tone looks ready to fill in that vacancy in your 1980’s display shelf.  A great looking update, and a good path to start going down for the Collectors’ Club, I have a feeling this will draw new people in a big way.  Click the thumbnail preview below to check out the entire image!

Also of note is the newly shaded image for the upcoming Adventure Team “Sea Adventurer”…judging by the shadow, he looks to be coming with a repainted “Sting Raider” from the Valor Vs. Venom and Rise of Cobra line.  Very cool little tidbit!  Check it all out at GIJoeClub.com!

More details emerge for GIJCC 25th Anniversary Dial Tone

As we gear up for the 2011 Membership drive from the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club, some more details can be had about the upcoming 2011 exclusive figure, a 25th Anniversary Dial-Tone.  Over on their Exclusive Figures page, the GIJCC has posted two silouettes, one for the Communications Officer, and one for the 12″ exclusive, the Man of the Sea.
From what we can see in the silouette of Dial-Tone (as well as what’s mentioned in the text), a few more details can be gathered:

  • Dial Tone will have a totally newly tooled head
  • The figure looks to be comprised of Buzzer’s Torso/Webgear, and Sgt. Airborne’s arms and legs.  Legs could also be Gung Ho, tough to tell for sure
  • He will come with his familiar machine gun and what looks to be a retooled backpack to match his vintage version

They also mention on this page that the Adventure Team Sea Adventurer should hit release in early 2011.
If you even think you might be interested in this Dial Tone figure, I strongly recommend you join up and ensure that you get it.  Big Lob sold out and I have absolutely ZERO doubts in my mind that Dial Tone will, too.  And probably pretty damn quickly.  Don’t miss this boat.

GIJCC 2010 Membership Drive

So, are you a member of the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club?  If not, why not?  I have a feeling the offer of the 25th Anniversary Dial-Tone in 2011 will drive many folks to become members, and hopefully many of them will find it worthwhile.
The monthly newsletter features many interesting articles…in the past there have been dio-stories (by yours truly…) and expect plenty of reviews and other articles going forward as well.  Hasbro designer John Warden often showcases his talents and sneak previews there, and they are always interesting and enlightening.
Well, starting Monday, the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club is kicking off a membership drive!  Straight from the homepage:

A YouTube video has also appeared celebrating the membership drive, and there also happens to be a very subtle sneak peek at the upcoming 25th Anniversary Dial Tone.  Check it out in embedded goodness below.

For folks who have not yet joined up, I hope you seriously consider it…for the price of a couple cups of coffee per month you get a very professional newsletter, great discounts from their online store, and a free figure that fills in a huge gap in the 25th Anniversary collection.  Do it!

2011 G.I. Joe Collectors' Club incentive figure revealed, and it's a doozy!

Wow.  Something tells me the Collectors’ Club might be the biggest benefactor of Hasbro’s shift to non-Anniversary product, if this is any indication.
SNAKE EYES on HissTank.com is reporting that the 2011 GIJCC Incentive figure is none other than Dial Tone.  With a newly sculpted head and his familiar 1986 style, this fills a huge hole in the 1986 roster and I think will make a lot of fans very happy.
There are currently no images of the figure, but it was announced in the latest issue of the G.I. Joe Collectors’ Club newsletter.  Kudos to the Club for getting a chance to explore the undone Anniversary figures, and this means nothing but good things for those fans who are clamoring for this stuff.  Makes me excited to see some Con Set reveal info, that’s for sure.
Check out the GIJoe Collectors Club site to join now and ensure that you get your hands on Dial Tone in 2011!  A big thanks to The Terror Drome Twitter page for the heads up.
