GeneralsJoes reviews the Pursuit of Cobra Mechs

Although I already have a nice number of Pursuit of Cobra items posted on the PoC Review Page, this begins the more official kick off of my Pursuit of Cobra reviews!  Some of my previous reviews are based on pre-production items, or items I acquired prior to retail release, but the Mechs signify the first items I’ve bought from regular retail.  Expect to see reviews continue full steam ahead until the first allotment of PoC greatness has been covered.

Pursuit of Cobra HISS and Mech Images posted online

Yes, I’m still in the midst of convention decompressing and gathering information together to get posted, but I just had to get this nugget out there, since I think a lot of fans will love checking out these images.
Gyre-Viper of HissTank.com posted a metric ton of pictures of recently acquired HISS Tank as well as both the G.I. Joe and Cobra Mech Suits for the upcoming Pursuit of Cobra line.  Yes, they are as sick as you think they are, especially that HISS.  Amazing stuff.  The thread can be found here, and I’ve mirrored nearly three dozen pics below as well.
In an effort to tie this back in to the convention, too, I did want to just take a minute and say one of the highlights of the Con for me was getting a chance to meet and interact with Gyre-Viper as he prowled the sales floor or the hallways of the hotel.  I’ve seen my fair share of fans from all walks of life, and many of those fans I run into who buy the pre-production items have a craving to be “first”, to wear it like some sort of badge of honor.  But Gyre-Viper has a palpable thirst for knowledge, an amazing respect for the G.I. Joe brand, and a healthy desire to see G.I. Joe succeed, which drives him to collect the way he does.  He obviously has a deep appreciation for what the toys are all about now, but he also is extremely fascinated with how the production process happens, and with the history of G.I. Joe over the past twenty-eight years.
It was a blast meeting with him and shooting the breeze for a little while, and it always excites me when someone who hasn’t been around all that long can motivate other folks to get excited for the product, and who has an obvious energy himself.
Gyre-Viper, you da man!  Keep it up, bud.

Better box images revealed for Pursuit of Cobra Mech Suits

Big thanks to Wild Weasel from The Terror Drome who managed to dig up some auctions on eBay featuring images of the upcoming Pursuit of Cobra Mech Suits!  While I try to avoid revealing the overseas “gray market” auctions, when new images are a part of the package, I’m all in.
Check out the great box images below for the Steel Marauder w/ Kickstart, and the Cobra Deviant w/ Cyber-Viper!

Toy Fair Report Part 4 – Pursuit of Cobra Mech Suits

Lastly, we got some looks at the new Mech Suits coming out for Pursuit of Cobra.  The Sigma 6 2.5” vehicles with some heavily tooled cockpits really mesh with the new age Joe universe perfectly, and both G.I. Joe and Cobra have ‘em. Retailing for $19.99, these should hit in August of 2010.
G.I. Joe and Cobra Mech Suits

  • G.I. Joe Steel Marauder w/ Kickstart – A new driver, and a familiar green and black color scheme give us a nicely military, yet futuristic tool of destruction for G.I. Joe.  I was in love with the Sigma 6 Iron Hammer, and I’m really digging this version as well.  Sign me up.
  • Cobra Deviant w/ Cyber-Viper – A fairly obscure vintage character gets a modern remake and he’s piloting a pretty neat, modified version of the G.I. Joe mech.  These two vehicles really can go toe-to-toe and they both look very cool.

And that was about it.  G.I. Joe had a fairly tame showing compared to Transformers, Marvel, and Star Wars, but us Joe fans are pretty used to that.  I know there wasn’t a whole lot of new coolness to see, but what we did see was pretty incredible.  The Pursuit of Cobra is taking G.I. Joe in an awesome direction…absolutely awesome.  And Resolute is just the perfect icing on the cake.  There wasn’t much seen there that I didn’t really like, and I have a feeling we’ll see a lot more in April/May at JoeCon.
