12 Days of Sideshow gives Joefans the goods

Sideshow Collectibles is currently holding a “12 Days of Sideshow” event, where they celebrate 12 secret product reveals for some upcoming Sideshow Collectibles items.  Well, we’re only on Day Two, and already Joe fans have quite the treat!
A quick look at the below image shows us a little sneak preview at an upcoming General Hawk figure!  But who is that behind Hawk?  Looks to be an African American…in a beret…  Stalker!  And, with Beachhead covering their flank, you can also see that the figure looking at them is none other than a Cobra Viper!
Wow.
Stalker, Hawk, and a Cobra Viper all revealed in one image.  Looks like 2011 could be another banner year for Sideshow.  The mirrored image is below, but you can also check out the 12 Days of Sideshow right here.

Sideshow 12" Beachhead looks freaking amazing

The Sideshow Collectibles 12″ Beachhead has been shipping and has reached collector hands already, and over on HissTank.com Whitehawk has posted a few pictures (with a full review on his website, The Impulse Nerd).
Granted, Sideshow’s gallery was pretty slick looking already, but these images have appealed to me all the more.  Maybe it’s because I’ve recently gotten Duke in hand (review is coming, I promise) but this Beachhead is just impressive.  Really impressive.  Removable crossbow, awesome backpack, great commando sweater.  Holy crap, this looks great.
Check out the mirrored images below, and be sure to check out the review directly.

GeneralsJoes Reviews G.I. Joe: Resolute Beachhead and Firefly

Kicking off the weeklong G.I. Joe: Review Battle Royal are two masked men from the G.I. Joe and Cobra ranks!  From the G.I. Joe squad, we have the wannbe drill instructor and Army Ranger, Beachhead!  And from Cobra, the infamous Cobra Saboteur, Firefly.
Both of these reviews can also be found linked on the brand spankin’ new G.I. Joe: Resolute Review Page!
Getting these reviews done in the midst of my month-long review fest and SDCC coverage has been a challenge, but it’s been a labor of love so far.  I *heart* the G.I. Joe: Resolute figures.

It's official – Pursuit of Cobra is the 8th Wonder of the World

Well, official in my mind, anyway…  I mean, come on.  Sure the Great Wall of China is cool and all, but can it wear a gas mask while scuba diving?  Hell no.
As anyone who reads this page was already painfully aware, I am totally infatuated with the upcoming Pursuit of Cobra line.  So infatuated that I’m religiously following reports of store sightings of Bravo Vehicles at Toys “R” Us and Amazon/ToyWiz, as well as closely watching the reported August 1st “Street Date” at Target stores nationwide.  Of course, even as the toys hit in other places, it generally takes awhile to trickle up here…  delivering shipments by horseback and all that.
But as if I wasn’t loving Pursuit of Cobra enough, the mailman dropped off a “City Strike” Beachhead last week.  Good Lord.  GeneralsJoes contributor Hawkwinter already did a great review, and I really can’t add a whole lot to it, so I’ll just link it instead.  The twisted anal-retentive Joefan in me, though, couldn’t help but take a couple dozen pictures, which I’ll just link in a gallery below.
This figure is insane.  However, I do think he suffers just a bit from this new Pursuit of Cobra “over-detail” aesthetic.  His flak vest is awesome, don’t get me wrong, but it’s pretty huge, pretty over-burdened with detail, and the figure ends up being a total mish-mash of sculpt and functionality.  He’s got jungle deco with an urban name, a gas mask, a wealth of re-used weaponry (including a pulse rifle!) that doesn’t really blend with the character or the specialty.  His dive flippers are tacked onto the back of his vest, except he’s supposed to be an urban trooper.
I can certainly appreciate what Hasbro is doing, and in execution, this is one hell of an amazing looking figure.  But it seemed like Hasbro just had a bunch of stuff left over and slapped it on Beachhead just for the heck of it.  The result is an awesome figure that has so much random stuff it’s tough to iron out exactly what they were going for.  Of course, this is a pre-production version, but even production-level images have shown similar gear load outs.
Check out the pics and judge for yourself.

New images of unproduced Pursuit of Cobra figures make me a sad panda

I’m a bit conflicted on this one.  On the one hand, I love the fact that The Terror Drome has gotten their hands on a nice allotment of unproduced Pursuit of Cobra figures, then made some very in depth updates to their image galleries.  But on the other hand, the more I see these detailed images, the sadder I get over the fact that some of this stuff won’t hit retail, especially a figure as nice as “City Strike” Scarlett.
Sure, the base figure is simply Resolute Scarlett, painted up in darker colors and with an updated Rachel Nichols head.  But what kills me here is the gear.  Even though the major piece of equipment with Scarlett, the flight pack, is one we’ve seen a couple of times already, adding that oxygen mask, that sword/sheath combination, and those incredible bladed tonfa swords makes for a whole new look for the Joe covert ops specialist.  She fits in so well with the Pursuit of Cobra City Strike theme…  a damn shame that she’s destined for the scrap heap, but even if you can’t have her, you can enjoy the terrific images.  I’ve mirrored them below, but you really should check out The Terror Drome directly.

Along with Scarlett, they’ve also posted a pretty slick set of images for the unreleased Jungle Assault Cobra Commander.  Even though he comes with the same fishbowl head sculpt, the addition of the jacket adds some nice bulk to the figure,  I really like the gray color variations, and that crazy robotic bug is too cool for words.  Sure, if this guy hit retail, he probably wouldn’t have been among my favorites, but he’s got such a unique look, I find myself really loving the figure and accessories, and hoping that some day I can get my hands on him as well.
You can see some mirrored images below, but also check out the gallery at The Terror Drome.

These figures weren’t the only showcases either…  awesome new images of City Strike Beachhead, Jungle Assault Duke (Tatum and non-Tatum), as well as Quick Kick are also there as well.  I just wanted to showcase two of my personal favorites.
A big kudos to The Terror Drome for getting images of these out to the fans.  A great look into what “could have been”.
