G.I. Joe Battleground “The Viper Calls” event is live!

Fresh off of events featuring a story tied to the Sunbow 2-Parter “Worlds Without End” we’re getting another Sunbow themed follow up based on the classic episode “The Viper is Coming”.  Of course any connection is pretty tenuous, as I’m pretty sure Blackout never appeared in that old school episode.

G.I.JOE has received numerous calls from a mysterious informant whose cryptic messages lead the Joes unerringly to Cobra bases and operations all over the globe! The two sides clash as each tries to discover the identity of the enigmatic caller known simply as the Viper. Can Stalker, G.I.JOE’s original ranger, stand up to Black Out, Cobra’s cold, methodical sniper? How will your squads fare with the new debuff logic? Find out in the exciting Global Warfare event, The Viper Calls, on now!

G.I. Joe: Battleground Matter Transmuted Event is ON

In the fury of Toy Fair news, the new G.I. Joe: Battleground event Matter Transmuted kind of slipped under the radar, but it is on now!

Apparently taking some queues from the Sunbow “Worlds Without End” 2-Parter it looks to feature Steeler and The Baroness as headliners with some other rather interesting cards complimenting them.

Check out some screen grabs below.

The Ten biggest G.I. Joe news stories of 2013

The dichotomy between 2013 and this upcoming new year couldn’t have been more stark than it was when I was researching the Top 10 biggest news stories for the past year.  We went from anticipating a new film, lots of new Hasbro release toys, the emergence of Kre-O, and many other potential new G.I. Joe events from the upcoming year to a year of total uncertainty.

Today marks the beginning of the 50th Anniversary of the G.I. Joe brand, a brand steeped in history and cultural relevance, and it seems to be a real shame that such an event would go mostly ignored by Hasbro, who wouldn’t exist as an entity today without G.I. Joe’s presence throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.  A damn shame that nearly four full decades of success relegates a once remarkable brand to the potential dustbins of history and pop culture insignificance.  G.I. Joe as a brand helped build you, Hasbro.  It would be nice if you would at least spend some efforts trying to return the favor.

Rant over.  🙂

Click the “Continue Reading” link below to see my list of the Top 10 biggest G.I. Joe news stories of 2013, let’s all cross our fingers that there are enough reasons to be writing up a similar list this time next year!

G.I. Joe: Battleground Peril in The Pit Event is on now!

The latest PVP event ended a few days ago, so now it’s time for the next big surge!  Cobra has discovered the location of The Pit, and it’s up to a few of the Original 13 Joes to stop them.

Flash, Grunt, and Zap team up to try and battle back Destro and Crimson Guard Commander.

As always the artwork on these new cards are fantastic, not just in execution, but in concept.  I’m in love with the Crimson Guard Commander, the fact that they used the GIJCC Iron Grenadier Destro, and that the Epic version of Flash is his Rise of Cobra version?  Solid GOLD.
