By popular demand… the write in answers from Concept Case Survey Round One

A huge thanks has to go out to too many people to mention here…I put out a request for some Excel help last week in order to try and decipher the hundreds of write in’s that were supplied in Round One of the Concept Case survey.

I got almost two dozen offers of assistance, which absolutely blew me away.  Matt from the Awesome Toy Blog did some great formatting and data gathering…  ImpHolocron on Twitter came through as well…  in the end, though, my man Trazz from HissTank.com took all of the intel together and compiled a pair of insane spreadsheets.

Who ever thought anyone would use the term “insane spreadsheets” to describe anything?

Trazz not only compiled a spreadsheet for figures and for vehicles, but actually charted the responses to measure a ratio of the most requested figures and vehicles via write in votes.  Crazy.

I’ve attached the two spreadsheets here.  The spreadsheets have multiple tabs, including a tab which has every single write in vote, but then also some compiled answers as well.  The figures chart absolutely blew me away, showing that aside from Cobra “Viper” troopers of various ilk, Gung Ho seems to be far away the most requested character.  That comes as no surprise.

Feel free to download the spreadsheets from this post and peruse them at your leisure.  Excellent insight.  Keep in mind that this isn’t anything that was fully analyzed by teams of professionals…it was essentially two guys (Trazz and myself, but mostly Trazz) who gathered this together and formatted it.  I’m sure it’s not perfect, but it is very cool, nonetheless.

I cannot thank the numerous volunteers enough for pitching in with offers to help.  Thank you ALL.

Heroes of the World, Unite in Play – Official Press Release

Veteran toy developers, Go, Go, Dynamo!, are harnessing the power of Kickstarter to crowd fund the first line of action figures that teach kids about diverse cultures through great play and magical stories. This knowledge fosters a mutual understanding between people of unfamiliar backgrounds and cultures.

Heroes of the World, Unite in Play

Providence, RI, July 28, 2012 –(PR.com)– As the world’s athletic heroes gather in London, the world’s cultural heroes assemble at crowd-sourcing site Kickstarter (www.hero.gogodynamo.com) for a new generation of action figures. The Hero Project aims to introduce kids to a spectacular selection of action figures from around the world, starting with Rama, the greatest hero of India.

“These figures teach kids about their own heritage and allow them to discover amazing heroes from other cultures,” explains Wayne Losey of Go, Go, Dynamo!, formerly a design exec at Hasbro responsible for bringing Boy’s Action properties to life. “Knowing these heroes and the cultures they came from creates a broader understanding that helps kids relate to people from different backgrounds.”

“Heroes stories are symbolic of growing-up and capture kid’s imaginations. Just look at all the kids around the world who share a love for the latest pop culture character,” offers Tucker Johnson, a veteran industrial designer with a knack for telling stories through play. “Heroes bring people together.”

It’s going to take a heroic effort to meet the Kickerstarter funding goal by August 8th. Children of the world, unite! Come together in Play!

Let your voices be heard ROUND TWO – The Concept Case Survey Continues

I gotta be honest…  I was stunned at the turn out for Round One of the Concept Case Survey.  I’ve always suspected that the online G.I. Joe community was fairly small, and while we’re obviously vocal and enthusiastic, I had my doubts about how many folks would be motivated to sit through a 10 minute survey.

Turns out over 1100 of you were, and I’m very thankful for that.  Truth is, the more folks that vote, the more impact the votes have, and if Hasbro sees the fandom taking the time to let their voices be heard, the more likely they are to take our input into consideration.

So, you all voted… you all saw the results of Round One…and now we’re off to Round Two!  All of the selections from the various sections have been narrowed down to a single list of 20.  It’s now up to the fans to take that list of 20 and tell Hasbro WHAT YOU WANT.  Go for it!
