Maybe I’m just not paying close enough attention, but I don’t think Chuck Dixon gives many interviews, so when he does, they are usually pretty interesting, and the latest with Comic Book Resources is no different.
Mr. Dixon gives some really interesting perspective about how differently he has to handle the G.I. Joe universe when compared to Larry Hama, and how he is working to make the IDW universe stand apart from what we’ve seen in the past. It’s a long and very insightful talk with the current writer of G.I. Joe as well as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.

Wow…to say I was pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of help today would be an understatement. This morning I asked for an Excel guru to assist me in combing through the write in votes for the Concept Case survey, and I was inundated with offers! Emails, comments, Twitter, PM’s on other forums…a ton of offers to help, and I cannot thank everyone enough for their assistance.
Ultimately, a couple guys pitched in and provided a TON of help filtering out garbage data and compiling some very interesting results.
I need to spend some more time filtering and sorting, but this was a HUGE help, and I should hopefully be able to post the final tallies alongside Round Two of the Concept Case survey on Monday.
Big props to everyone who offered to help today. I truly appreciate the time it took and the generous offers everyone sent my way.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions privately and in the comments about analysis for the Concept Case survey when it comes to the “Write In” section. Unfortunately as it stands, in order for Survey Monkey to perform a proper text analysis, I have to be on their “Gold” level platform, which you can only do by signing an annual contract to the tune of $300.
Now, I love getting this data together as much as the next guy, but I can’t swing that. But what I can do is take all of the individual responses and copy and paste them to an Excel spreadsheet. The only issue with that is it also gathers some other extraneous text as well. In the interest of trying to gather as consistent data as possible, I would love some assistance with the following:
- Deleting every other row in an Excel spreadsheet. Any formula writers out there?
- Comparing the write in entries to gather consistent numbers
This is not a small task. If you think about the fact that 1200 people took this survey, and there were 10 different write in sections (5 for figures, 5 for vehicles) you can appreciate how much data this is.
Granted, not everyone filled in all of the write ins, so that lessens the numbers a bit, but there is a lot of data there.
Anyone out there willing to assist? I think this could be a great community-building project. Either comment on this thread with some contact info, or drop me an email – justin AT generalsjoes DOT com and maybe we can all work together to get this data out to the community.

Over on JoeDeclassified, Gyre-Viper has posted a terrific interview with Greg Berndston, who was a long time designer for Hasbro and worked intimately with the G.I. Joe brand during it’s formative years.
They explore a lot of great topics, and it is definitely worth a read. Stuff like this is really the cool “secret world” of G.I. Joe that not many modern collectors appreciate, but really demonstrates some of the great building blocks of the brand as we know it.

The fine folks over at Latino Review have uncovered what looks to be a new international poster for G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Using many of the same images from previous posters, it is assembled in a different way. It’s a great looking poster, even if it does use a number of recycled images.
