Hasbro has provided us with final press photos of the soon-to-be-released SDCC exclusive version of Sgt. Slaughter! Like the Gold Headed Destro and Cobra Commander, there will be two different versions of the exclusive. The Primary Release, which is the one decoed like the mailaway (with the USA on his shirt) and a Variant Release, which is the one decoed like the TTT driver with the camouflage pants.
These are expected to also be available via HasbroToyShop as previous SDCC exclusives have been. Check out the press images in some nice high-res glory below. I know this figure has sparked a lot of frustrations throughout the fandom, and I can see their perspective. Everyone is used to the cartoon-infused mega muscular Sgt. Slaughter, while in real life he was never built like that. From my own perspective, I think a more natural physique was a great choice. Sure, he looks more human, but he also looks more like the character who sparked the kids of the 80’s to jump into the G.I. Joe universe. Sculpting someone all musclebound and ripped up takes a certain skill, sure, but in my mind it almost takes more skill to make a fairly normal person, but still maintain a certain level of detail and quality. I think they definitely did that here. I’m really looking forward to adding this figure to my collection. In fact, it’s really sparked a renewed interest in my head with the Anniversary line, and made me really hope that Hasbro dips back into that well in 2010 and 2011 to fill in some of those holes, especially in 1986.

Hasbro should take a chapter out of their Iron Man line and package updated characters and classic together much like Iron Man does with their movie, concept and comic lines.
I’m pumped for these Slaughter figures and hope to get one of each.

I agree with m6d, that would be a perfect way to fill in some 25th figures we missed out on.
And I never owned the Sarge as a kid, but I’ll definitely be getting at least one of these. Very cool.
Yeah, still would love to see a few more holes filled with the 25th line of figures, but this is one closer to accomplishing that.
I still have all 3 Sarges I got as a kid, and I’m hoping I get lucky enough to snag both of these, as well. They’ll fit in nicely with the rest of my 25th guys.
While I don’t really have a huge issue with his arms not being supremely massive, I do wish they had made him a bit more muscular and huge in his torso, like he appeared in the cartoons and comics (Hey! Hasbro, a cool comic version of him in Camo uniform, worn when he punched out Zartan at the PITT would be nice to see also, since you’ve made these molds and all now, lol). I know watching him on TV wrestling he was never that huge, but come on, this isn’t reality and the Sarge’s character is larger than life, even if his specific physique wasn’t/isn’t. The guy’s a legend, whether people like him or not.
That being said, I gotta say, the chest on these 2 figures is almost non-existent and makes him look almost flabby, not so much the heroic looking muscled guy whom the other Joes look up to for their training. His figure should be at least a meeting point between his true physique and the exaggerated version we saw in the toons. Even Major Barrage (?) and Outback (DTC versions) were more cut and bulked than these 25th Sarges. So, to that end, I feel they dropped the ball, BUT bottom line, these look cool and I’d love to end up with them.
