Notice anything strange in the Wal-Mart toy aisle?

Like the fact that it’s getting smaller?  HissCommander from The Terror Drome points out an interesting article on ToyDirectory.com which lays out some drastic changes that the largest retailer has been making in their toy departments nation wide.  A smaller overall size, reflecting in a 25% decrease in overall stock.  The writer hypothesizes that this will have some affect on the major manufacturers (such as Hasbro and Mattel), but will likely have severe, back-breaking impact on the smaller toy manufacturers.

Knowing Wal-Mart’s love of high profit, low-budget toys, one has to wonder whether G.I. Joe will be sacrificed in favor of the CORPS, or if the big budget movie will finally convince Wal-Mart that the Joe brand is a viable one going forward?  Interesting times ahead.

Very nice updated images of Pit Commando and COBRA Eel

With much thanks to HissCommander from The Terror Drome, some images have been uncovered of the upcoming G.I. Joe Pit Commando and movie-themed COBRA Eel.

The Pit Commando appears to come in at least two packaging variations, showcasing the different forms the soldier can take, and the sheer amount of gear he comes with is a customizing dream come true.  Check out the images of the Pit Commando below:

The COBRA Eel pictures so far have been grainy and undetailed, so these updated images are very nice to see.  I gotta say, while I’m not a huge fan of the styling of the movie Vipers and Neo-Vipers, I do really love how they’re taking a base template and tweaking it to make all of these different troop variations.  Even though I’m not loving the look, it’s a great concept, and this Eel has enough minor changes to really stand out.  He also has some color tweaks; enough to make him at least a bit of an homage to the original.  Check out those images below:
