DEADPOOL FEATURETTE

Now keep in mind, I’m not even a Hulk fan…not in the least.  But I’ll be damned if that doesn’t look pretty kick ass.

Back in the 90’s we got a nice helping of some Marvel animated stuff with the Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, and Fantastic Four cartoons, but in all honesty, I thought those series’ ran the gamut from just okay to nearly dreadful. Some of them tried to stay true to the comic stories, but the animation was choppy, the stories weren’t great, and while we got a nice helping of lots of different characters, sometimes the stories suffered a bit.

Well, thanks in part to the enormous success of comic book properties in the theaters, we’re really getting some… well… “spectacular” Marvel comics based animated fare. If you couldn’t tell by my horrible pun there, tops of the list is Spectacular Spider-Man, one of the most fun animated series I’ve seen in a long, long time. But I’ve also managed to see the first 13 episodes of Wolverine and the X-Men ( :shifty: ), and while the title would suggest it’s almost more of a solo story, it really isn’t, and I find it very, very entertaining! It’s almost like a perfect follow up to X-Men Evolution, with a nice array of characters, some redesigns (though they’re very faithful to the originals) and some pretty neat stories.

Then there are the DVD offerings.  As I mentioned before, the “Hulk Vs.” DVD coming out this month looks absolutely awesome, even though I’m not really a Hulk fan.  The animation looks crisp, the action is pretty severe, great guest stars galore.  It just looks awesome.  I was also a big fan of Ultimate Avengers #1 and #2 and Iron Man.  Dr. Strange was fair, though not great, but I found that I was surprisingly fond of the Young Avengers.  The writing manages to work for the younger crowd, yet there’s plenty of hard-edged action and things that will satisfy us old, codgy comic fans as well.  Marvel fans, or even just cartoon fans, should really do themselves a favor and check these out.

Now just gimme a Daredevil cartoon and I’ll be happy!
