I already did the MASS Device yesterday.  Now we continue the celebration of the Sunbow cartoon (as well as the release of the DVD Battle Packs) by rolling my Top 5 Moments from the Revenge of COBRA.

In some ways better than the MASS Device (at least in my opinion), The Revenge of COBRA follows a nearly identical formula, yet adds some twists and turns.  New characters arrive, action sequences are ramped up.  It follows the tradition of the MASS Device perfectly.  But what are my Top 5 Moments?

———-

5: Roadblock makes his way deep into the COBRA Temple and faces off against COBRA Commander himself!  But then he and his companion must make a hasty exit.

———-

4: Call me a cheater on this one, but I kind of combined a couple of different scenes.  Flint, Roadblock, and Mutt crash into a rocky canyon filled with COBRA creeper vines.   Soon the rain comes, and the vines come alive, forcing the Joes to higher ground, but they can’t all make it out together.

———-

3: COBRA’s cast of characters gets even more bizarre and insidious with the first appearence of the malevolent Master of Disguise!

———-

2: The defining moment of the series when the Joes fight back against COBRA’s powerful Weather Dominator.  The resulting explosion catapults the device into three pieces, scattered across the globe!

———-

1: The opening sequence of the Revenge of COBRA will always define the coolest parts of the G.I. Joe cartoon.  A massive attack by COBRA on a G.I. Joe convoy…new recruits opening fire on both sides!  There are captives and consequences, and the fun is just about to begin.

Whatever your preference, whether you’re a comic fan, a cartoon fan, or merely a toy fan, you cannot argue that the Sunbow cartoon had an incredible impact on a world of children back in the early to mid 80’s.  Without the cartoon G.I. Joe would not have achieved the level of popularity that it did, and even if you get squirrely about the lasers, the world-takeover attempts, and Bazooka acting like a dumbass you can still appreciate the cool parts of the animation and seeing your favorite characters come to life.
